2008 SHIMANO Deore XT Marks 25 Years of Off-Road Innovation




In 1982, what started as a phone call from Yoshi Shimano to the HQ in Japan about a growing cycling movement resulted in a full set of components designed specifically for mountain bikes...Shimano Deore XT was born.2008 Shimano Deore XT represents a component set designed to take on the challenges dished out by modern day mountain bike riders on aggressive terrain. Introducing the Shimano Shadow Rear Derailleur
Like the latest XTR, options are the emphasis of the new Deore XT. The debut of the Shimano Shadow RD yields a third rear derailleur option, joining the Top-Normal and Low-Normal versions. A Shadow RD places priority on a low profile design and less body movement for those enthusiasts that are most at home on extreme technical trails.

• Top-Normal spring design (The Original) to mesh with the more common choice of RapidFire shifters for trail / all-mountain riding


• In high gear, the derailleur has a profile that is a full 15mm less than a traditional rear derailleur. That means it barely protrudes more than the quick release skewer nut.


• Direct cable routing reduces the chance of the cable snagging on roots and rocks.


• Stronger spring keeps the derailleur body more stable in rough terrainand yields firm, crisp shifting feel.

Servo-Wave: Exclusive Feature of the New Deore XT Disc Brake Systems
The new Servo-Wave equipped Deore XT disc brake levers provide both clearance & power. Available in Dual Control Levers or individual brake levers, this feature provides plenty of pad clearance while delivering substantial power. Combined with the new, stiffer, mono-body XT caliper an additional 20% more power is on tap. Ergonomic tuning has also been enhanced with another XT exclusive: brake levers that have adjustable lever free-stroke as well as adjustable reach, resulting in a system that can be tuned to each individual’s anatomy and preferences.

Wheelsets: Two Options for your Riding Style



WH-M776: 20mm Thru Axle All-Mountain Wheelset


For the first time, Deore XT will feature an option for a 20mm through axle front hub and also a wheelset featuring the same through axle front hub and wider rims.


Current trail riding has spawned a number of lightweight, long-travel, though axle forks that were made to soak up the bumps and provide precise steering. Having the right front hub completes the equation, and the new Deore XT fits the bill with precision angular contact bearings that are fully adjustable, efficient under any load, completely rebuildable, and specified as a factory matched set.


The XT freehub has been redesigned for quick engagement (10 degrees max) and minimum drag. The result is a highly efficient hub that lends itself to technical riding.

SL-M770: RapidFire Shift Lever
Like XTR, the new XT shift levers have 2-Way Release and Instant Release shifting. The shift unit also has a two position mounting bracket for inboard or outboard brake lever mounting.
